How the zone system works

South Africa has 54 fuel price zones on the October 2026 schedule: 17 A zones, 9 B zones, 21 C zones and 7 J zones on the Namaqualand coast. Each magisterial district belongs to exactly one zone, and the zone decides the price.

The spread from the cheapest to the dearest zone is 185 c/l for 95: R29.38 in zone 1A against R31.23 in zone 64C. That difference is the zone differential, a regulated allowance for transporting fuel from the coast.

Zones 60C and 10A appear in the schedule but no district on the 2011 list points to them, so they have no page of their own.
